Frisco requires a Fence Permit to build a new fence or replace an existing one, except for minor repairs or replacing 50 percent or less of the total fence length (also described as up to two sections or 16 feet); masonry fences additionally require an Engineer's design approved by Building Inspections. Fences may reach 8 feet in height behind the front building line (rear and side yards), and 4 feet in front of the front building line, always subject to vision-clip, access, and maintenance (VAM) requirements and never extending past the property line. Prohibited fence materials include continuous electrical current, barbed wire, fiberglass panels, corrugated steel or sheet iron, razor wire, and concertina wire. The city will not be liable for damage to a fence built within a utility easement during utility repairs or maintenance.
