Boca Raton's own Code of Ordinances states plainly that permits are required to erect or replace a fence or wall of any height, with no size exemption; wood fences must additionally meet Florida Building Code Section 2328 for High-Velocity Hurricane Zone construction. A narrow repair exception exists for work under $1,000 on an existing permitted fence, but only if it does not change the material, width, height, or location. Zoning Section 28-1356 separately caps a front-yard hedge next to a permitted side fence at 4 feet, and allows a 6-foot wall specifically along named corridors (A1A, US-1, Old Dixie Highway, and Camino Real) subject to city manager approval. Fences within the boundaries of the former City of University Park, annexed into Boca Raton and built before July 27, 1971, received a limited legacy exemption under a 1977 amortization clause.
