Palm Bay caps walls, fences, hedges, and dense plantings outside the building line at 4 feet in the front setback and 6 feet at any other location; corner lots may have a fence up to 6 feet within the side corner yard area under certain conditions. Barbed tape, razor tape, razor wire, and concertina barbed wire are prohibited citywide except where specifically permitted; chain-link fences may not be placed within 20 feet of the front or side corner property lines. Under the statewide Florida Building Code (Chapter 553), fences over 6 feet are generally treated as structures requiring a permit with engineered wind-load drawings.
