Fairfield's own municipal code amends the California Building Code's exempt-work list on items 1, 9 and adds a new item 14, covering accessory structures, prefabricated pools and minor roof repairs, but leaves the standard deck exemption item untouched, so the statewide 200 square foot / 30 inch / not-attached figure still applies. The city's own Homeowner Help page adds a real, city-specific detail for a related structure: a patio or deck cover under 60 square feet with an open lattice roof, open on 3 sides, may sit anywhere on the lot at least 3 feet from any property line, while larger or enclosed covers need Planning & Development approval, must sit on the rear half of the lot, and are capped at 12 feet in height.
