City of Lubbock Building Safety Department; Lubbock Code of Ordinances (International Building Code local exemption list)

Lubbock exempts a one-story detached accessory structure used as a tool or storage shed, playhouse, or similar use from a building permit when the floor area does not exceed 200 square feet, per the city's own adopted Code of Ordinances. A building permit is required for a portable building moved within city limits unless it is accessory to the main building on the same property, one story, and no more than 200 square feet. Fences not over 7 feet high are separately exempt. Applications and plans can be submitted to Building Safety at 1314 Avenue K.
