Yonkers requires a building permit once a shed measures larger than 8 feet by 10 feet, per the city's own Code provisions; no shed may exceed 11 feet by 12 feet under any circumstance, and sheds must be located in side or rear yards only, anchored in a manner approved by the Department, and used solely for domestic (not commercial) purposes. A full site plan showing the shed's location on the lot is required with the permit application, and the shed must be at least 5 feet from all property boundaries. Fences of wood within 10 feet of a public street or 30 feet of a building cannot exceed 6 feet unless the supporting method is approved by the Department.
