Greeley exempts a one-story detached accessory structure used as a tool or storage shed, playhouse, or similar use from a building permit when the floor area does not exceed 120 square feet, per the city's own adopted building code ordinance. Fences not over 7 feet high, retaining walls not over 4 feet (measured from the bottom of the footing to the top), and water tanks supported directly on grade with a capacity not exceeding 5,000 gallons are separately exempt. Inspections can be requested through the 24-Hour Inspection Hotline at (970) 400-3015.
