Thousand Oaks exempts a one-story detached accessory structure used as a children's playhouse or tree house, equipment shed, or utility building from a building permit when the building does not exceed 120 square feet or 12 feet in overall height, contains no mechanical, electrical, or plumbing installations requiring permits, is not located in a required setback yard, and sits more than 6 feet from any similar accessory structure and from the dwelling. Fences up to 6 feet, or masonry block walls up to 3 feet measured from the top of soil on the lowest grade side, are separately exempt.
