Shed Installation Permits in Peoria
Local Rule
City of Peoria Planning and Zoning Department; Peoria Zoning Code Section 21-422; amended Section 105.2 (Building Code Administrative Provisions)
Peoria exempts a one-story detached accessory structure used as a tool shed, storage shed, playhouse, or similar use from a building permit when the floor area is not greater than 200 square feet AND the height does not exceed 8 feet, per the city's own Common City Code Violations page; exceeding either limit requires a building permit and/or Design Review compliance. Accessory buildings 9 feet in height or greater, or 300 square feet or greater, must additionally conform to the City of Peoria Design Review Manual. No accessory building may be located in any front yard, and maximum height for an accessory building is capped at 20 feet except on larger lots (18,000 square feet or more) in certain zoning districts.

Maricopa County Planning & Development
Unincorporated Maricopa County allows residents to build detached, single-story, non-habitable accessory structures up to 200 square feet without a building permit. The structure must be entirely free of electrical, plumbing, or mechanical connections. Note that this exemption applies strictly to unincorporated areas, and incorporated cities within the county may enforce their own distinct thresholds and zoning requirements.
