Monroe County Building Department

Effective January 1, 2026, Indiana House Enrolled Act 1005 (now IC 36-7-2.5) reclassified family swimming pools, including above-ground pools, as "Class 2 structures," a new statewide category that requires a Certificate of Zoning Compliance to be completed through the local planning office before the Monroe County Building Department will accept the pool permit application. Monroe County's accessory-structure fee schedule charges $0.14 per square foot with a $50 to $100 minimum for the pool itself.
