LaPorte County Building Department / Planning Commission

LaPorte County's zoning ordinance requires any below-grade pool to be completely enclosed by a fence at least 4 feet tall with self-closing, self-latching gates, while above-grade pools that lack such a fence must instead rely on a removable or lockable ladder as the access barrier, an either/or approach rather than a single fixed rule. The County Building Inspector may require the pool's building lines to be staked out if the structure falls within 15 feet of a lot line, a site-verification step not applied to every permit. Notably, the county's own health department documentation states that LaPorte County presently has no public swimming pool at all; every pool in the county, including those at hotels, HOAs, and campgrounds, is classified as semi-public or private.
