City of Spokane Valley Community Development Department;

Spokane Valley does not require a permit for a standard fence up to 7 feet; anything over 7 feet and up to the 8-foot maximum is required to be permitted and engineered. In residential zoning districts, fences behind the required front-yard setback line (flanking, side, or rear yard) may not exceed 8 feet; non-sight-obstructing fences such as chain link are capped at 48 inches in areas where visibility matters. Lots with double street frontage may treat the property line not used as the main access point as the apparent rear yard for fence-height purposes. Nonresidential zoning districts also cap fences at 8 feet without a conditional use permit.
