Arvada requires a permit for all fencing regardless of height; Planning and Development completes a zoning compliance review of the site plan and application through the eTRAKiT portal. Fences over 6 feet additionally require a plan review by the Building Inspection Division, including specifications for wind rating, and most will need an engineer's letter. Fences over 4 feet must sit at or behind the front facade of the building; fences at least 50 percent transparent/open may qualify for exceptions to height or location restrictions. Along a detached sidewalk, a perimeter fence or wall must be set back at least 4 feet from the back of the walk with landscaping between; along an attached walk, the setback is at least 8 feet. A fence on a lot line adjacent to a public right-of-way, including trails, must have its finished side facing that right-of-way.
